What Happened to Immortality drama of Luo Yunxi and Chen Feiyu?

The airing of the super hyped BL xianxia Chinese drama, Immortality, remains bleak as it's still lined up to secure approval from the regulatory board.

Immortality is an upcoming costume fantasy drama based on the BL xianxia novel: The Husky and His White Cat Shizun by Meatbun Doesn't Eat Meat. It stars Chen Feiyu or Arthur Chen and Luo Yunxi or Leo Luo.

This drama has been completed its post production works in 2020 and was reported to air in April 2021, then September 2022. But it has been nearly a year since its last release update and we haven't heard anything from the production.

Immortality is directed by Sam Ho, the same director of the recent costume fantasy hit drama, Back From The Brink (currently streaming on Youku).

What could be the reason of its delay? Well, no one can figure out. The press release in 2021 was that it will be aired in April 2021 then May 2022, then September 2022.  And now we're half way of 2023 still this drama has not given a green light to air.

But why? Well, this is just a speculation, but perhaps the main reason is the Chinese government's strict regulations on dramas. In 2021, there was a boycott from the National Radio and Television Administration on BL (boys love) dramas.

Following the success of two BL costume dramas, The Untamed in 2019, and Word Honor in early 2021, the Chinese government heavily censored series that insinuate homosexuality and scenes that do not reflect their ethics and nationalistic pursuits.

So dramas that promote same-sex relationships and other behavior that goes against the principles of the People's Republic of China'a idealism were shelved.

So it could be one of the reasons why Immortality failed to secure an approval of release. It's a BL drama and needs a further evaluation from the regulatory board. Perhaps they proposed to remove scenes (just like in Go Princess Go) that insinuate same-sex relationship.

It's uncertain whether this drama will still be granted a final approval of release or forever be shelved, but we're hoping it will be given a go signal to air because the story sounds interesting.
