The 14th Edition of the Beijing International Film Festival opens with a red-carpet gala on April 18, Thursday, at the Beijing Yanqi Lake International Convention and Exhibition Center, welcoming filmmakers and celebrities from home and overseas.
Chinese movie stars, guests, and industry professionals dazzled in their finest suits and gowns as they graced the red carpet ceremony.
The opening film of the festival is "Dwelling by the West Lake" starred by Wu Lei and Jiang Qinqin. The movie is directed by Gu Xiaogang and talks about a son rescuing his mother from financial woes as they navigate their lives through troubled times.

Over 4,000 films were submitted for this year’s International Film Festival and more than 1,509 feature films from 118 countries and regions were submitted for the feature film section.
This year, 15 films are competing for the Tiantan Award (the main award of the festival) - 12 are foreign films and three are domestic films, according to the committee of the BJIFF.

According to Xinhua News, more than 250 domestic and international films will be shown across 27 theaters in Beijing, and in its neighboring Tianjin Municipality and Hebei Province.
The Beijing International Film Festival was launched in 2011 to boost exchange among global film industry players. It has been attracting increasing international attention due to China's booming film market.
