These new pairings in the Chinese Drama to be filmed soon excite drama fans since most of them are popular and who we have known for years. Some of these acting projects are not yet confirmed, so we look forward to the official announcement.
1. Cheng Yi and Li Qin - They are reportedly going to make a modern business drama, Growing Between Fingers, and filming is said to be commencing this April. We have no idea what's the story of this drama, based on the initial poster released it is an urban setting. Cheng Yi and Li Qin were both born in 1990.
 
This is quite interesting as we rarely saw Cheng Yi in a modern drama. Maybe his talent agency decided to expose him more in this genre to avoid work fatigue. Cheng Yi has been doing costume dramas non-stop so a change of scenery would be good for himself and his career growth.
The last time we saw Cheng Yi in a modern drama was in 2023, Southwind Knows. Li Qin, on the other hand, is balancing her acting portfolio between costume and non-costume dramas, with a blend of the period genre such as War of Faith and The Youth Memories.
2. Xiao Zhan and Tiffany Tang - The drama is "Spying", a Republican-era spy war drama. This is going to be Xiao Zhan's first Republican-era drama in the main lead role. Tiffany Tang is reportedly the main female lead but we don't know if they are love interest in the drama. Most of the republican spy war dramas are not romance-centered.Â
If this pairing comes true and they are love interest, Xiao Zhan will be the youngest ever partner of Tiffany Tang in the drama. Tiffany was born in 1983 while Xiao Zhan was born in 1992. Xiao Zhan is not a stranger to having a drama partner considerably older than him. In 2023, he starred in a romance drama, Sunshine By My Side, with Bai Baihe who is eight years older than him.
3. Tan Songyun and Zhang Xincheng - This is the most awaited reunion of Tan Songyun and Zhang Xincheng who first paired in a hit family youth drama, Go Ahead (2020) with Song Weilong.
Their latest collaboration is the upcoming costume drama, Against the Current to be broadcast on Tencent.
Against The Current tells the story of Shen Jialan (Tan Songyun), the eldest granddaughter of the Grand Secretary's Mansion, and Lin Jinlou (Zhang Xincheng), the eldest grandson of the Minister of Personnel Lin's family.Â
Shen Jialan and Lin Jinlou entered into a marriage contract. However, the court suddenly changed, and Shen Jialan's grandfather was convicted of treason. The Shen family was destroyed but Shen Jialan was able to escape.
In order to protect themselves, the Lin family broke off the engagement with the Shen family and he married the new noble Zhao family in front of the emperor.Â
Shen Jialan was saved by the couple whose daughter was recently died and Jialan takes the couple's daughter identity. She will enter the Lin family's mansion as a maid and will meet Jinlou again.
4. Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi - Both born in 1999, Song Weilong and Zhang Jingyi are confirmed to star in the upcoming modern romance drama, Wild Dog Bones.Â
He is currently filming a modern drama also with Zhao Jinmai, Shine on Me, so this is a successive modern drama project for Song Weilong. Zhang Jingyi is currently filming a costume drama, Chasing Dreams with Chen Zheyuan.
5. Chen Zheyuan and Bao Shang En - They are confirmed to star in the upcoming modern romance drama, Cross the Ocean of Time To Love You. which tells the story of a struggling actor and a successful businesswoman.Â
This is a change of scenery for Bao Shang En who has been doing a successive costume drama: The Legend of Heroes, Water Dragon Chant, Little Cardamom, and Generation to Generation. Chen Zheyuan is currently filming Chasing Dreams, a costume drama with Zhang Jingyi. He also just starred in a hit war drama, The White Olive Tree with Liang Jie.
6. Xu Kai and Zhou Ye - What a sigh of relief hearing Zhou Ye will do a costume drama again! 😄 I always think she is good in this genre since watching her debut in Word of Honor (2021). We last saw her in Back from the Brink with Neo Hou and she was impressive in that drama. She has an upcoming costume drama, The Legend of the Female General, with Cheng Lei.
This is also Xu Kai's new costume drama after filming two thriller series: Fire Investigator and the one with Ding Yongdai and Deng Enxi. Both are not romance-centered. It looks like his manager, Yu Zheng, can find a good balance in Xu Kai's career by blending modern and costume drama projects.
This latest costume drama which Xu Kai and Zhou Ye will star is Yiouchun or A Spring Day with the English title: A Cup of Love. It follows Xie Qingyuan (Zhou Ye), the daughter of the concubine of the Xie family who lost her mother at a young age, and Shen Run (Xu Kai) who suffered a family change and was exiled. They met when they were children and eventually got separated due to circumstances.
After becoming an adult, Xie Qingyuan was taken back to the Xie Mansion. The Shen family made a comeback, and Shen Run became an important official in the court. Xie Qingyuan's father encountered a crisis, and Shen Run was appointed to supervise the Xie family. During this period, he reunited with Xie Qingyuan.
