K-Drama Actor Profile: Seo Kang-joon: Personal Facts and Drama Projects

Seo Kang-joon is a South Korean actor and singer. He was born Lee Seung-hwan on October 12, 1993, in Gunpo, Gyeonggi province, South Korea. He is a member of the actor-singing group, 5urprise, launched in 2013 by the talent agency, Fantagio.

He went to study abroad in Malaysia for less than two years during his secondary school and returned to South Korea for his high school years. He studied Performing Arts at Dong Seoul College.

He made his television acting debut in 2012 with a guest role in "To The Beautiful You" which aired on the SBS network. He also tried modeling before he auditioned for the "Actor's League" organized by the talent agency, Fantagio, in search of new actors. 

After passing the audition, Kang-joon underwent training, and finally, in September 2013, the group, 5urprise (pronounced Surprise), composed of five actors (Yoo II, Seo Kang-joon, Gong Myung, Kang Tae-oh, and Lee Tae-hwan), was launched.

In 2014, he joined SBS variety show, Roommate, as a cast member. He also took minor roles in various television series such as "The Suspicious Housekeeper", "Good Doctor", and "What Happens To My Family", before playing his breakout role in "Cunning Single Lady", where he won the Best New Actor award from 7th Korea Drama Awards.

However, he rose to popularity in 2016 when he played the role of Baek In-ho, a talented pianist, in the youth romance drama, "Cheese in the Trap". 

He played his first leading role in the tvN drama, "Entourage", the Korean adaptation of the hit American TV series of the same name.

His rise to stardom continues with the series, "Are You Human?", in 2018, where he portrayed dual roles - a robot and a wealthy heir. 

In 2020, he starred opposite Park Min-young, in the light provincial-theme drama, "When the Weather is Fine". In November 2021, he enlisted in mandatory military service training.

His latest drama "Grid", a mystery thriller, just wrapped up its airing in April 2022. 

Seo Kang-Joon exudes charm and cuteness, thus, suits very well with princely and guy-next-door roles. In his interview with Marie Claire magazine, he talked about being an actor. 

"My love for acting is growing bigger and bigger. As I get to know more about acting, I feel like I am not good enough, but at some point, as I go through this process, I will be able to see that I've grown up".

Trivia: Seo Kang-joon is a cat lover. He owns at least two or three cats and he is a proud fur parent as he takes time to play with them. He also proudly shows his cute fur babies on his instagram account.
