This is a late post of my review of Interlaced Scenes! Just finished watching this suspense crime investigation drama from mainland China some weeks ago.Â
Interlaced Scenes has only 15 episodes and can be watched on iQIYI. Well, the first seven episodes of this drama are quite interesting and hold attention. It kept me on the edge as the "confusing" angle of murder and the people involved emerged one by one.Â
But as the show went on, especially after episode 8, things went downhill, and I thought the second murder case was bizarre and very incoherent, to say the least. The flow of the story went from bad to worse as the finale approached, but I still went on watching because I was curious how all the characters would meet their end. 😂
Plot Summary:
Interlaced Scenes follows a strange rape-murder case of a lady named Zhang Qing, who was killed on the night of the dragon boat festival. The suspect was captured but he swore to heaven he did not kill the victim. This prompted the police to track down the real murderer.
The investigation team was led by Jiang Guangming (played by Ma Yili). He was assisted by Shin Lou (played by Gao Zhaoting). As they traced every angle of the murder case, their investigation brought them to the intriguing best-selling book, Black Rain, by author, Guo Jiming (played by Tong Da Wei).Â
Clues were sketchy and the fact that the murder weapon was missing, Guangming needed to study every angle how to capture the suspect.Â
It changed when the best-selling book, Black Rain, of the author, Gu Jiming (Tong Da Wei), described the exact situation, including the location, on what happened that night. It puzzled the police with the coincidences and Jiming became the person of interest.
My review:
The first 7 episodes are pumped with thrill and suspense, coupled with mysterious circumstances, as the police are tracking down the real suspect, the puzzling situation goes deeper as more complex circumstances have been unearthed one by one.
What I love about the first 7 episodes is the ability of the drama to capture the audience's interest with the element of mystery through its presentation of crime scenes, what happened there after, and who are the possible people involved.
However, after episode 8, it seems the flow of the story is stuck and becoming more illogical. The second crime case (Jiang Nana) is somewhat bizarre and I would say - nonsense and incoherent lol!
The ending is good anyway but I'm not okay with the flow of the script in the second part (episodes 9-15), the reason of committing such "crime" seems unnecessary and lacks logic, can't help but wonder why in the world he commits such "deed".
I still prefer the K-Drama, Red Swan (which I rated 8/10 in my review), which for me the compelling suspense thriller drama I watched so far this year.
Interlaced Scenes is good for people who like crime investigation drama. Its concept is to "confuse" the viewers with the real identity of the suspect. However the story is not really riveting. There are "slow" scenes that make you yawn. My rating: 6/10.
