Who is Katy Louise Saunders? The Rumored Girlfriend of Song Joong-ki

Talking about romance, South Korean actor, Song Joong-ki's revelation of his new love seems to be the biggest news in Asian drama before the year ends.

It's been a while since we heard about a high-profile celebrity publicly admitting a relationship so when Song Joong-ki, who recently starred in a hit K-drama, Reborn Rich, confirmed through his talent agency, High Zium Studio, that he is dating an unnamed British woman, it generated intense public interest, especially among K-drama fans.

The revelation received mixed reactions from drama fans in  Asia, some are happy that finally, the Vincenzo star has found a new love, three years after he divorced his wife of two years, Song Hye-Kyo, his co-star in Descendants of the Sun, but others are heartbroken, especially the Song-Song CP fandom.

Fans of the former couple have been savoring hope of a reconciliation, after all, Song Hye-Kyo has yet to find a new romance after the breakup (at least publicly), but with her ex-husband's confirmation of a new relationship, everything now looks dim.

Just two days after the announcement of their relationship, K-drama fans began digging into the identity of the mysterious British woman in Song Joong-ki's life. 

Recently, a video clip of Song Joong-ki and his rumored girlfriend captured at Incheon International Airport in South Korea began circulating online.

It appears the two just arrived from Singapore where Joong-ki was promoting his Reborn Rich drama.

Another public photo of them was uploaded on social media showing them attending a wedding.

So it looks like Song Joong-ki never hides his new love. He feels it's time to go public with his new relationship.

During the public confirmation of his relationship, his studio didn't specify the name of the girl. However, K-netizens were able to gather information about the mysterious girl. And later identified her as Katy Louise Saunders, an England-born actress who grew up in Italy.

His agency did not disclose how Joong-ki met his girlfriend but according to some articles online, they were introduced by a friend last year (2021).

It also appears that Katy grew up and lived in Milan, Italy, coincidentally the hometown of Song Joong-ki's character, Vincenzo Cassano in the 2021 K-drama streamed on Netflix, Vincenzo. 

Just a quick recap - Vincenzo Cassano was a lawyer who works for the Mafia in Milan, Italy, as a consigliere. Because of a war between mafia groups, he flees to South Korea.

According to some info online about her background, Katy was born on July 21, 1984, in England to a British father and a Columbian mother. She is a year older than Song Joong-ki who was born on September 19, 1985.

Her family moved to Italy when she was still a young girl. She eventually earned a degree in Business Administration from the prestigious Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. She debuted in acting in 2002 in the Italian romance, "A Journey Called Love or A Scandalous Journey".

She did several films in Italy and in 2007 she won the "Student Jury Award" for her role in the 2006 movie, "Los Borgia".

In 2011, she starred in the TV mini-series, "Follow Your Dreams" where she portrayed the main character, Giorgia, an aspiring dancer.

She also appeared in the film Third Person (2013) opposite Liam Neeson, Mila Kunis, and Olivia Wilde. Her last acting project was in 2018, in "Condor, The Scorpion King: Book of Souls", and "Welcome Home".

There are some unconfirmed reports that she served as Song Joong-ki's Italian tutor in Vincenzo, but his studio never confirmed this.

In an interview last year, Song Joong-ki revealed he has not set foot in Milan, Italy despite the fact that his character, Vincenzo Cassano, grew up in Milan, Italy. 

Vincenzo was entirely filmed in South Korea. It was never filmed in Italy. The Italian scenes in Vincenzo were just CGI or computer-generated images.
